At Metro Dental, we’re pleased to provide all of our patients with direct billing to their insurance company. However, it’s important to remember that every insurance company and insurance plan is different, so make sure you read the terms and conditions on your plan beforehand.
It is likely that your plan will have a deductible. The deductible is the amount that you have to pay on a specific claim before your insurance company will cover the rest of the costs. Usually, a higher deductible will mean lower monthly premiums. Your dental health care provider will not know whether or not you have a deductible though, so you’ll need to check with your insurance company. If you do have a deductible, you’ll also need to find out if it’s paid per event of a claim or per year. This is determined by your insurance company and your selected policy, so only you and your insurance company will know the specifics, and our office won’t able to tell you.
This is part of the reason so many Calgary dentist offices just don’t provide direct billing. Another problem is that wait time for your dentist to receive their funds can range from weeks to months depending on the insurance agency, so billing clients up front ensures that the health care provider is paid for their service right away. Billing insurance companies also often require a lot of paperwork, so practices with fewer staff members may not have the staff, time, or ability to keep up with every patient claim. Some insurance company plans may not cover procedure costs, so in an event that there is still a balance owing, it is then the practice’s responsibility to track down the patient to complete the transaction.
However, despite all the complications, we feel it’s worthwhile to provide outpatients with direct billing. We understand most Calgarians don’t look forward to their dental appointments, and we strive to ensure your time with us is as comfortable as possible.
